Magnetic Ink Discovery: MICR Decoded

On May 8, 2024, class VI students delved into MICR technology during their Science class. Through hands-on engagement with blank check samples and the MICR line, pupils explored Magnetic Ink Character Recognition.

Discovering that magnetic ink, formed by mixing tiny magnet particles with liquid, is crucial for the 9-digit MICR code on bank cheques, students decoded its significance. The code’s first 3 digits represent the city code, the next 3 the bank code, and the last 3 the branch code.

Encouraged to open bank accounts, learners embraced the importance of saving money and financial literacy. This experiential learning journey not only unveiled technological innovations but also fostered practical life skills.
