Girl Up

Girl Up is a UN Foundation initiative, which empowers girls worldwide for a more fair and inclusive society. With 270,000 youth in 155 countries, including 800+ clubs in India, it fosters over 25,000 young leaders, encouraging them to challenge patriarchal norms, advocate for women’s rights, and promote equality, equity, and diversity globally.

Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar has initiated its own wing and are proud that Niyamat Kochhar of Class XII was selected for the prestigious Youth Advisory Board at the WiSci Camp South Asia (the only Indian girl there) and delivered a keynote address to 100 girls from South Asia and the USA. She also interacted with female mentors from Google, United Airlines, NASA, and other esteemed organizations, visited notable sites like KSUM, and gained insights from a solar-powered boat excursion. Highlight moments included meeting the US Consul General of Chennai and presenting her STEAM project, ‘Menstra,’ which converts biodegradable pads into biogas for sustainable electricity.

Invited recently to the “Let the Stars Align” event by the US Embassy in Delhi, Niyamat celebrated US-India space collaboration. She engaged with the US ambassador and the Deputy Chief of Mission, presenting her project, Menstra, aimed at empowering women and promoting environmental sustainability. Girl Up at Tagore International School stands as a testament to the school’s commitment to inculcating leadership, advocating equality and promoting sustainability.
