Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar, in association with the Japan Foundation, organized the much awaited Annual Inter-School Origami competition on 2 November 2023, which showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of young origami enthusiasts from 32 leading schools of Delhi NCR. Origami, ori meaning “folding”, and kami meaning “paper” is the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures to create both 2-D and 3-D objects. The event was judged by Mr. Koji Yoshida, Counsellor (PR & Culture) Embassy of Japan and Ms. Naoko Makishi, a learned teacher from the Japanese School.
The overall theme this year was “Peace” with events in seven categories such as Junior, Middle, Senior and even a Teachers category, with enthusiastic participation in all. The themes across the various groups were Peace through Flowers, Nature, Family, Community, War and Peace, Peace beyond Religion and What Gives Me Peace. Both students and teachers created beautiful paper sculptures ; figures dressed in colourful kimonos, colourful birds, scenes from nature, all emanating peace and tranquility, taking the competition to new heights. The prize winners of the competition were felicitated on 22 November, 2023 at the Japan Foundation, New Delhi.
The Inter-School Origami Competition is an exceptional event where the ancient art of paper folding brought out the imagination, precision patience and dexterity of every participant, encouraging them to express themselves through this distinctive art form.
