Shri Ann /Millets Better Nutrition, a Better Environment and a Better Life!

United Nations, at the behest of the Government of India, declared 2023 the International Year Millets (IYM-2023) with the theme “Harnessing the untapped potential of millets for food security, nutrition and agriculture.” Taking this forward, we at TIS have planned a series of year-long activities highlighting the benefits and the nutritional value of millets. The first among these was held during PTM, on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Adopting a participatory learning approach, students were encouraged to create posters and banners highlighting the nutritional benefits and environmental advantages of millets. These were displayed along the entire length of the school corridor for the students and parent body. Students interacted with the parents, talking them through the benefits of millet’s consumption as they walked along these display boards.

The day saw students sing a rap, play songs and stage a dance from Kerala performed post-harvest of foxtail millet, all with the aim of generating community awareness. The cafeteria too served millet-based dishes. Students, parents and staff were seen enjoying savouries like millet upma, poha, chilla and many more.
