Return to Roots

Return to Roots on 8 December 2022 was a truly wonderful day with our ex-students and retired teachers. As part of our ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations, we invited all those who have been a part of our journey to join us for a day full of the joy and excitement of meeting one’s old friends and teachers. After a warm welcome, with Madhu Ma’am (our Senior Education Advisor) sharing some of her thoughts on this occasion, the guests watched a short video documenting this 50 year journey of struggle and dedication. The alumni were then invited to take a walk around the school, to explore all their old haunts and take in all the improvements and enhanced facilities. A short but very enjoyable programme followed, which included a beautiful and evocative dance set to Gurudev’s eternally relevant poem ‘Where the Mind is Without Fear’ , a melodious rendition of the haunting song ‘Pal’ , the new English version of the school song and of course the much loved older Hindi one Aham Yogya Asmi. And of course there was a round of musical chairs, a lemon-and spoon-race for the retired teachers and
a hard fought Tug of War ( the present day students won ) Students from Classes VI to XII were all invited to be a part of this enjoyable event and the excitement level was quite palpable ! The specially planned lunch menu was designed to remind the alumni of all the items they used to enjoy from the school ‘canteen’ as it was called then. To return to one’s alma mater, where it all began, and to have an opportunity to revisit one’s favourite corners of the school, to reconnect with dear friends and old teachers, was clearly much enjoyed and appreciated by the alumni; a few of whom were from the very first batch and a few from the latest batch, with of course many more from batches in between. Return to Roots was a unique and memorable day, and we thank all those who joined us to make it so special.
