Keeping young children safe from sexual abuse is an important concern of parents, teachers and caregivers. A workshop focused on educating the little ones of Classes IV and V about the difference between good touch and bad touch was organized at TIS,VV on 30 November 2022. Making them actively think through different situations , enacting out certain possibilities in a roleplay and participating in an activity where they had to create boundaries and place people within the safe and unsafe category were some of the techniques which helped students understand this complex issue.
The workshop challenged the students’ cognitive and emotional abilities by asking them to think of practical ways of dealing with such uncomfortable situations. The resource person, Ms Shreyal Jain of Fortis Hospital guided the students with measures that can be followed to manage such situations in case they arise. Our students came up with questions and found their own answers ; which clearly indicated that the key learning from the workshop had been successfully accomplished.
