Decode, Analyse, Empower :  Media Literacy Workshop for Class VIII

Mythos Lab and YouTube hosted an engaging Media Literacy Workshop for students of Class VIII on 23 February 2024. In today’s digital world where we are all bombarded with messages on social media, media literacy can help combat the current misinformation epidemic and empower students. The students participated in an open discussion addressing misinformation and disinformation. The importance of identifying them was also highlighted through short, entertaining videos. The students were introduced to three common tactics; decontextualizing, spoofing, and emotional manipulation, as well as how to identify and combat these using the innovative acronym SUCS (Source, Ubiquity, Context, Second Opinion). Students learnt how to protect themselves online, to verify news authenticity, develop critical thinking and promote responsible media usage. To reinforce key points, a short interactive game was played with the students at the very end. This was a significant workshop which empowered students to navigate the digital world in safety and with confidence
