Beyond Textbooks: A Chromatic Exploration of Acids and Bases

Picture a learning experience where the mysteries of acids and bases are unlocked not in textbooks but through the enchantment of everyday items… And the seventh graders did just that in their Science class.

The task at hand involved deciphering the acidic or basic properties of household substances like toothpaste, detergent, vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda. Turmeric paper, acting as a pH indicator, transformed this exploration into a vibrant spectacle.

Taking the learning experience a step further, students seamlessly integrated art into their scientific endeavor  using turmeric paper as a canvas, creating drawings with a soap solution. The chemical interaction, rooted in the basic nature of the solution, added an artistic dimension to the exploration, showcasing the power of multidisciplinary approaches and the fusion of learning, fun and art beyond the confines of traditional classrooms.
