Since our initial partnership in 2008, we have organised several exchange programmes, calligraphy and mandarin classes, as well as visits from state officials like the the Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao in 2010

Tagore's Legacy in China Honoured by Online Cultural Interaction with Shanghai School

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to China. The Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) hosted a delegation of Indian scholars and artists titled “Retracing Tagore’s Footsteps in China” on 15 April 2024.The delegation includes Tagore scholars, artists, and media journalists who visited Jinyuan High School in Shanghai. They joined the online calligraphy class with our students and the students of  Jinyuan High and were delighted to witness the cultural exchange.

Students of Tagore International School , Vasant Vihar Invited to Shanghai

Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar has always worked for international goodwill and understanding by forging close ties with students and educational institutions across the world.Recently we were honoured to be the only Indian school invited by the Chinese Embassy in India on behalf of the hosts, The Good Neighbourliness Friendship and Cooperation Commission (GNFCC) of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to the Shanghai Cooperation Junior Journalists International Summer Camp from 13 July to 25 July 2023. This event gave an unique opportunity to our students Tishya Chandok and Snehpreet Kaur (both of Class X) to learn about the workings of the media and gain exposure in a foreign country.
The Opening Ceremony was held on 17 July at Volga Manor, Harbin, where our students danced to the catchy Hindi song Gallan Goodiyan and Ms Sonia Bhatia, who had accompanied the students, also gave a speech. A Seminar for the teachers on ‘Diversity in Education’ was held on 20 July at Lindu Hotel, Yichun. An impressive closing ceremony on 24 July at Yueju Chateau, Yichun concluded this event. Shehpreet and Tishya enthralled the audience with another Indian dance.
The students grasped a lot about how the media functions and news is broadcast in China. They also absorbed a lot from their peers about different food and cultures and it was a great chance to share some delicious Indian eats and thus reach out to the other delegates. The interaction with students from various countries and the glimpse of China with its fascinating ancient history and culture as well as its amazing modern technological advances was indeed a unique takeaway for the students.

Anvi Rai Of Class IX Wins 3rd Prize In Chinese Bridge Event

Tagore International School Vasant Vihar has always been a pathbreaker. We believe that international peace and understanding begins with school children, our future citizens and leaders. To broaden horizons and grapple with the dynamics of a fast-changing world, our students have been a part of varied exchange programmes with schools all over the globe.

Our ties with China began in 2008 and have continued unabated even during the pandemic with virtual interactions and collaborations.
The Chinese Bridge or Chinese Proficiency Competitions for secondary school students is another platform where Indian school and college students display their proficiency in Chinese language and culture. After the rigorous online and later offline selection process,  with  participants  from institutions across the country, Anvi Rai of Class IX,  was shortlisted as one of the six finalists. The Final Round  was held at the Chinese Embassy on 3 June 2023 and included a number of eminent guests. Anvi  gave a speech in Mandarin (speaking about her dreams ) and sang a song, also  in Mandarin – and was awarded the third prize in this prestigious event !

Congratulations Anvi !

Our Principal, Dr Parul Tyagi in her address spoke of the close bonds forged by TIS, VV with China and especially with our partner school Jinyuan High in Shanghai.

We hope to continue this tradition and develop even closer bonds, thus bringing the youth of India and China together.

Memorable Visit to The Chinese Embassy and interaction with Astronauts

On 20 April 2023 some of our students from Classes IX and X were invited to visit the Chinese Embassy and experience a virtual interaction with astronauts at  the recently launched Tiangong Space Station, a permanently manned space station built by China. A leaflet outlining the details about  the space station was provided to each student, making the “Talk with Taikonauts” doubly interesting. The hosts conducted a brief educational quiz and awarded prizes to the winners, which of course was very exciting. They then linked up with students from different countries via an online meeting, including from Russia, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, etc. The Taikonauts (who were in the space station) responded enthusiastically to the students’ queries. Our students’ learning was facilitated by the simultaneous translation of the conversation into English.

Following this, the students from TIS,VV presented a thoughtfully composed performance. They were then led to the dining room where an array of delicious Chinese dishes had been laid out;   a treat  which  was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The students also received lovely mementos to take home. All of them were impressed with the huge and impressive building, the eye-catching flower displays, the calligraphy and of course the unique chance of an interaction with the Taikonauts.

Learning Beyond Borders

Our online video conferencing and interchange of ideas and skills with Jinyuan Senior High School in Shanghai has resumed from October 2022. These classes are held each week, with teachers from Jinyuan High School teaching our students calligraphy and Tai Chi and our teachers Praveen Sir and Malovika ma’am demonstrating yoga and Indian dance respectively for the Chinese students. Deepti Ma’am from our art department and Lokesh Sir from our PE faculty also help and guide our students at this end with their calligraphy and Tai Chi. This is coordinated by Sonia Bhatia ma’am at our end and Tracy Ma’am in Jinyuan. Students aged between 10 and 13 attend these 40 minute sessions and are enjoying this unique opportunity to learn these arts, with authentic inputs and instruction from the Chinese teachers. This is one of the exclusive initiatives taken by Tagore International school, Vasant Vihar to groom our students to develop a global outlook.

The Chinese Language Day celebration

The Chinese Language Day is celebrated on the 20th of April every year. The day celebrates multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as promotes the equal use of all six official working languages of the nited Nations.

TIS has been offering Mandarin classes since 2011, and every year we see a number of enthusiastic students learning it. To celebrate the Chinese Language Day this year, the students of Classes VIII and IX presented Chinese songs, dance and poetry in an hour-long event, which was appreciated by all.

Exchange Program with Jinyuan Senior High School (Shanghai)

On 28th November 2008, we signed an MoU with the Jinyuan Senior High School in Shanghai to collaborate and facilitate cultural and education exchanges between the partner schools. Since then, we have held various events and excursions each year where both students and teachers have had the chance to visit the partner school each year.

International Cultural Exchange Program-Joy Dancing (Beijing)

Our students have participated regularly in the Joy Dancing Children’s Meet in Beijing since it’s inception in 2013. This platform provides an opportunity to experience and witness performances from across cultures and sow the seeds of friendship and long-lasting relationships. This festival not only celebrated peace and friendship but also served as a bridge to promote understanding amongst the youth across the globe.
