On 10 December 2024, Class VIII students Parnika Ahlawat and Krish Marwah participated in an astronomy workshop organised by Space India at the historic Qutub Minar, New Delhi. The workshop introduced students to an ancient yet effective method of calculating the Earth’s circumference using shadow measurement and trigonometry.
Using small sticks to represent the shadows cast by Qutub Minar, participants calculated the angle of sunlight striking the Earth, combining mathematical precision with astronomical insights. Additionally, students explored the Sanderson Sundial, enhancing their understanding of timekeeping and celestial observations. This interactive session merged history, science, and mathematics, offering a fascinating learning experience.
