Empowering Parents: A Sex Education Session for Parents

It is a well-established fact that parents play a crucial role in shaping their children’s perspectives on sexual behavior, which in turn influences their decision-making throughout their adolescent years. However, many parents underestimate their role in educating their children about sex, leading to limited or no communication with their children about adolescence, growth, or sex.
To address this gap, a sex education session was organized by the NGO Pratisandhi for parents of students in Classes VI to VIII on 4 May 2024. The session aimed to help parents understand the complexities of adolescent minds, particularly focusing on sexual development occurring between the ages of 11 to 13. Parents were provided with strategies to initiate conversations with their children about sensitive topics, creating an environment where children feel comfortable asking questions.
The session emphasized the importance of being approachable parents, encouraging attendees to become more open to discussing common scenarios that may arise during their child’s development. By empowering parents with knowledge and communication tools, the session aimed to promote open dialogue and support the healthy development of their children
