Classes III, IV & V Celebrate the Might of Millets

With 2023 being recognized as the International Year of the Millet, our students too decided to mark this in their own way.

The students of Classes III and IV familiarized themselves with all the various millets in a number of ways. They were shown an informative video and a powerpoint presentation, and were made aware about the millets available in the market, their names and how to identify them. They also learnt about their health benefits and  how millets can be included in one’s meals. They presented their knowledge in the form of an interactive worksheet. The students of Class III did a Show and Tell activity where they brought  millet based dish from home and explained all its benefits to their classmates.

The students of Class V too created some delicious and mouth watering savouries and snacks using millets as their main ingredients. With the support of their (equally innovative) mothers, the students brought these snacks in their lunch boxes and everyone enjoyed sampling each other’s lunches. They also made a card explaining the nutritional value of each item and the type of millet used. The platter was unique and varied; from ragi cutlets, millet noodles to millet cake and millet kheer, everything was on offer. Students also gave  unique names to their dish like Kabab-e-bajra and Cake de Ragi. It was a lot of fun and a great way to learn about all the different millets and how they can be incorporated into our daily diets. The students embraced these healthy eats with much appreciation, these Mighty Millet Munchies will certainly continue to be a regular part of their lunchboxes.
