Independence Day Celebration and Investiture Ceremony

Commemorating 75 years of our glorious freedom, students of Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar celebrated Independence Day on 12 August ‘22, with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Major General Deepinder Singh. The day began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Chief Guest. The school resounded with the national anthem proudly sung in unison by all students, but what added to the deep sense of patriotism in every heart was the hundreds of tricolours fluttering from the rooftops  and the huge banners that adorned the walls of the school building. A patriotic group song by the school choir and a speech on the duty of every Tagorean to be a worthy citizen by Vansh Sehgal set the mood for the day.

Learning to take responsibility, taking up challenges and showing leadership is an integral part of the unique ethos of the school. Along with the celebration, the school also held its annual Investiture Ceremony. In a sanctified and dignified ceremony, the 44- member new Student Council was vested with their responsibilities by ex- Head boys and ex – Head girls of the school, especially invited for the occasion. The proud flag-bearers, adorned with badges and sashes, were then administered the oath by, as they solemnly pledged to uphold the dignity of their office and to carry out their duties with  responsibility.

This year’s Achala Nadgir Award was awarded to Malvika Chawla of class XII and Sakina Nadeem of Class X, for their aggregate scores of 99.4% and 99.80% respectively in the 2021-22 Class XII and class X Board exams. The proud parents and students received the award from the Chief Guest and the Principal Dr. Parul Tyagi. Tanvi Nandal of class X, who earned a silver medal in Judo at the Children of Asia Sports and Games held in Vladivostok, Russia was also felicitated on the occasion.

An Inter-house Fusion dance competition followed. Each house, using different art forms, portrayed the principal values that their respective houses (Ekta, Pragati, Shakti, and Shanti) stand for, keeping in mind the overall theme of the Freedom struggle. Shakti House was acclaimed the winner, while Shanti House stood second.

As a befitting sequel to the ceremony, the Chief Guest extended his heartfelt congratulations to the office bearers and shared valuable life lessons with them.  To achieve success in life, he emphasised the importance of hard work, of inculcating the habit of reading and of respecting elders, especially  parents. Impressed by the achievements and performances of the students, he expressed his appreciation for the school. The event concluded with the Principal’s address, in which she spoke of the values that each student must nurture and embrace in their quest for success.  She also thanked all for their contribution in making the event a grand success.
